WOODLAND PARK, Colo. — Two Colorado State Patrol troopers were shot during a traffic stop on Highway 24 west of Woodland Park early Tuesday, and the suspect was still at large more than two hours later, according to state and county authorities.
CSP said the troopers “were conducting a traffic stop on Highway 24 west of Woodland Park where they were shot.” ABC News reported the shooting happened at about 7:15 a.m.

Both troopers self-transported to a hospital, CSP said. One was treated for serious wounds. The other was treated for minor wounds. CSP has not released their names, their assignments, or which of the two was more seriously hurt.
CSP asked motorists to avoid Highway 24 at milepost 286.
The Teller County Sheriff’s Office described the suspect as a white male with a tall build and brown shoulder-length hair, wearing blue jeans and a terracotta-colored shirt. ABC News reported the hair as brown or blonde. TCSO said he was driving a blue Subaru Impreza hatchback with the license plates obscured by tinted covers, and that he fled toward the Westwood Lakes and Woodland West areas, possibly on foot.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued a public warning: “Use caution and do not approach if seen. Suspect is armed and dangerous.”
TCSO ordered a shelter-in-place through the Peak Alerts system for the Westwood Lakes Subdivision — southwest of Woodland Park, off Highway 24 in the Pennsylvania Avenue area — and later expanded it to include Woodland West. Residents were told to “secure their homes and businesses and stay away from doors and windows.”
TCSO, CSP, the Colorado Springs Police Department and CBI are all working the scene and the search.
Anyone who sees the suspect or the vehicle is asked to call 911 and not approach. This is a developing story and will be updated.
