At 5:53 p.m., 911 callers reported a man firing a gun out the rear window of his home. A round hit a nearby vehicle and injured a juvenile inside it before police ever arrived. She did not need hospitalization. Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputies set a perimeter and evacuated the neighboring homes.
Five and a half hours. Negotiators tried the whole time. The Sheriff says Freddie Marty Jr., 62, would not communicate with them at all. SWAT breached a window and flew a drone into the house. Per the Sheriff, he pointed a gun at the drone, then pointed his long gun at a SWAT member. A SWAT member fired, at about 11:23 p.m. Marty died at the scene. No deputies were hurt.

He is dead, so there is no case against him. He was alone, and nobody else was charged. The shooting has not been ruled on. The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation holds it, and that process ends either with a grand jury or a public report. Neither has happened.
This is a short one. There is no audio, just the drone shot, and it is really good footage. They have been out here five and a half hours with a man who has already fired out of his window and hit a kid in a car before anybody in uniform showed up.
From what I can see, that window has been breached by the SWAT team’s equipment. That is my read on it, and it looks like exactly that.
Here is your guy. He points the shotgun straight at the drone, so there is no question about whether this is an armed suspect. Then he peeks himself out and gets a little too exposed, pointing that gun in the direction of the officers, and he gets shot. The drone goes up, gets a different view, he comes out, he points it, and down he goes.
That is what you do not do to the police. You do not get to point your gun at them like that and expect not to get shot. Five and a half hours of negotiators trying, and he would not say a word to them. He made the choice, and this one is caught on 4K drone video.
