This Privacy Policy describes how Former Lawman (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses and protects information from visitors to formerlawmanlive.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us. Your name and email address when you submit a contact form, send a tip, subscribe to the newsletter, or post a comment. Comments also record the email address and IP address submitted with them.
Information collected automatically. Standard web analytics — pages visited, time on site, referring page, browser and device type, and general geographic region — through Google Analytics and Cloudflare Analytics. Our host also keeps standard server access logs, including IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention. Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to identify individual visitors.
Cookies and tracking
This site uses cookies and similar technologies for three purposes:
- Essential — site performance, caching and security (Cloudflare, WP Rocket). Comment forms may store your name and email in your browser so you do not retype them.
- Analytics — Google Analytics and Cloudflare Analytics, to measure traffic and which articles get read.
- Advertising and affiliate tracking — when you click an advertisement or an affiliate link on this site, the advertiser or its affiliate network sets a cookie in your browser so any resulting purchase or sign-up is credited to this site. That cookie is set by the advertiser, not by us, and it is governed by that company’s privacy policy. Cookie lifetimes vary by advertiser, commonly 7 to 180 days.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so may affect how parts of the site work.
This site does not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because no common standard for honoring them exists.
Advertising and affiliate links
Former Lawman carries advertising and affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, this site earns a commission at no additional cost to you. Full detail — including who our current partners are and how placements are labeled — is on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
We do not give advertisers your name, email address or any other personal information. When you click through to an advertiser, you leave this site and that company collects whatever its own policy allows. Read it before you buy.
Advertising and affiliate partners currently include Delta Defense / USCCA and Ready Alliance Group, whose tracking runs on the Everflow platform.
Third-party services we use
- Google Analytics and Cloudflare — traffic measurement, content delivery, security
- FluentCRM and Mailgun — newsletter storage and delivery
- Webpushr — browser push notifications, if you opt in
- wpDiscuz and Gravatar — comments and comment avatars
- Rumble — embedded video players. On the Videos page and on video posts the player loads with the page; on articles and the home page it loads only when you click play. Rumble and its advertising partners may set their own cookies once the player loads.
- YouTube — embedded video players on some posts, served from YouTube’s no-cookie domain. They follow the same rule as Rumble: loaded with the page on video posts, and only when you click play elsewhere.
- Substack — newsletter and articles hosted off-site under Substack’s own policy
Email and push notifications
Email addresses collected through the newsletter are used to send editorial updates and, at times, sponsored content or offers from the partners named in the Affiliate Disclosure. Every email carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately. Push notifications can be turned off in your browser’s site settings at any time.
We do not sell, rent or trade your email address.
How long we keep information
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact form submissions are kept as long as needed to handle the matter and for our records. Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely unless you ask for removal. Analytics data is retained under the provider’s standard retention period.
Your rights
Everyone. You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email the address below and we will act on it.
California residents. Under the CCPA/CPRA you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. Former Lawman does not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law. Exercising these rights will not get you worse service.
EU and UK residents. Where the GDPR applies, our lawful bases are consent (newsletter, push notifications) and legitimate interest (site security, analytics, publishing). You have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your supervisory authority.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and it will be deleted.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS behind an enterprise firewall and CDN. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that a transmission over the internet is.
Changes
This policy can change. The date at the top is the effective date.
