On Saturday, October 10, 2026, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office received a call about a woman in a purple jumpsuit waving a firearm in the air. Officers responded but she was gone. An hour later, another caller said a woman dressed in all purple pointed a gun at a man in the same area. Officers again could not find her.
On Sunday, October 11, another call came in reporting a woman in a purple sweatsuit pointing a gun at a man. According to JSO, officers found her yelling and throwing things. They repeatedly told her to stop walking away, to show her hands and to stop reaching into her bag. She did not comply.
The officers made a plan to approach using a patrol car. One officer drove slowly down the street toward her while two officers walked behind the car. JSO says that when she reached an intersection she pulled a firearm from her bag, pointed it at the officers and fired, striking the driver’s side door of the patrol car.

Three officers fired at the same time, striking her. She fell and dropped the firearm. After she was handcuffed, paramedics rendered aid. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
JSO says that had she survived, she would have been arrested for four counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. The State Attorney’s Office will independently review the legality of the officers’ actions, and JSO will then conduct an internal policy review. Conclusions remain pending.
The video was released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on October 28, 2026.
