LAS VEGAS, NV — LVMPD — [2:27]
Officer pulls up on a disturbance call, hears a gunshot from inside the business, and watches the suspect run out the door holding a gun. Commands to drop it go ignored. Officer fires. Suspect is pronounced dead at the scene.
Turns out the suspect had just shot a man inside during a fight that started between two women outside the business. That victim survived and was upgraded to stable condition. Clean shoot. Officer sees a gunshot victim’s shooter come out the door armed and non-compliant — that’s the whole analysis. Only training point worth mentioning: the parking position. Pulling up tight to the front doors of an active call is a habit worth breaking, even when it works out like it did here.
NYPD — BROOKLYN — [13:06]
A barricaded subject firing on officers from inside an apartment. Started as a shots-fired call, escalated into hours of negotiation, and ended with an ESU team making entry up a stairway — about the worst position a cop can be caught in. High ground, no cover, nowhere to go but up. One officer took a round to the leg, went into surgery, survived. Detectives returned fire, over 30 rounds between them. Suspect went down.
The stairway entry is the story here. Fatal funnel doesn’t begin to cover it — once you’re committed to those stairs, you’re stuck.
BRADENTON, FL — BRADENTON PD — [31:18]
High-risk narcotics warrant, dynamic entry, SWAT team on a barricaded location. Subject inside displayed a revolver during the breach. Shot, killed. Recovered a firearm along with crack cocaine, marijuana, and MDMA at the scene — confirms the search warrant was legit and the threat was real.
What stands out here isn’t the shoot — it’s the aftermath. The officer who fired is audibly shaken afterward. Worth remembering next time someone tells you cops don’t feel it.
PALM SPRINGS, CA — PALM SPRINGS PD — [45:22]
Subject with a large knife on a second-story balcony. Negotiators worked him for over 40 minutes — crisis negotiator, bilingual officers, a clinical behavioral specialist. Tasers deployed. A 40mm less-lethal round deployed. None of it worked. Subject came down the stairs still armed, then charged officers at close range. Three officers fired. Pronounced dead at the hospital.
Distance was closing fast when shots were fired — this is the 21-foot rule playing out in real time. A knife at that range is a lethal threat, full stop.
AUSTIN, TX — AUSTIN PD — [56:10]
Call comes in on a young man reportedly brandishing a gun in a parking lot. Officers arrive, give commands, subject reaches for his waistband. Shots fired. No firearm recovered — a water bottle was in his waistband. Everything about the encounter reads as suicide by cop: the report, the behavior, the movement toward the waistband despite commands.
Officers acted on the information they had in real time. That’s the standard — not what’s found afterward.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — SAN LEANDRO PD — [1:03:48]
Welfare check that turned into a barricade situation, then a shooting. An out-of-state friend called in a suicide risk. A rookie officer spent several minutes talking the subject down, working toward a voluntary mental health hold. As officers opened the vehicle door, the subject reached for and produced a firearm. Officers fired. The subject also sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and died at the scene.
The rookie handled the negotiation well. Whether tactics around pulling him from the vehicle earlier could have changed the outcome is a fair training question — but a man dead set on a specific outcome usually gets there regardless.
DENVER, CO — DENVER PD — [1:16:04]
Harassment call, suspect reported with a knife. Foot pursuit. Suspect lunges at the responding officer with the knife, then charges again after being told to drop it. Officer fires. Suspect survived multiple gunshot wounds.
Charging an officer with a knife in hand is as close to a textbook justified shoot as it gets.
WILMINGTON, DE — WILMINGTON PD — [1:21:56]
Officers respond after a report of a man pointing a gun at a crowd. Subject, 19-year-old Kadir Skinner, comes out of a residence armed and runs. Officers fire — 14 rounds reported. Skinner was struck and later died. A lawsuit against the city has already been filed by the family.
Body cam on this one is rougher than the rest — less audio, more chaos on scene. We’ll get more from official channels as the investigation develops.
