A Texas Department of Public Safety motorcycle trooper was struck by a vehicle Friday night in South Austin, was taken to a hospital and has been released, according to DPS.
The trooper was stopped at a red light on Ben White Boulevard near South Congress Avenue when a Volkswagen Golf struck the motorcycle about 8:50 p.m. Friday, DPS spokesman Sgt. Billy Ray said.

The trooper was treated at a hospital and released, according to DPS. The Austin Police Department said the night of the crash that the injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 28-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated with an open container, Ray said. Her name has not been released.
The crash is under investigation.
The trooper’s name, rank and assignment have not been released.
No officer is reported to have discharged a firearm.
