On June 5, 2026, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Pacific Patrol Division officers responded to a robbery call in the 5000 block of West Manchester Boulevard. The victim had followed the suspect and pointed officers to a parked vehicle where the suspect — later identified as Thomas Hearn — was seated.
Officers ordered Hearn out of the vehicle. He refused, then drove off. Officers activated lights and sirens to conduct a stop. When Hearn failed to yield, a pursuit began that ended in an officer-involved shooting on the streets of Pacific Area.
The chase continued onto the northbound 405 Freeway. Near the Howard Hughes Parkway overpass, Hearn stopped his vehicle and fired one round from the driver’s side window, then resumed driving. The pursuit continued north until Hearn stopped south of Jefferson Boulevard.

Hearn exited the vehicle armed with a black handgun and faced the pursuing officers. Officers issued repeated commands for him to drop the weapon. He did not comply, and an officer-involved shooting occurred. Hearn was struck by gunfire, fell, and dropped the handgun.
Officers approached, took Hearn into custody without further incident, and began rendering aid. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and transported him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
No officers or community members were injured. A firearm was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence
