The Reno Police Department announced the death of Master Police Officer Lance Tindell on Monday, July 20, 2026. Tindell served with the department for 18 years.
Over the course of his career, Tindell worked in multiple specialized assignments. The department credits him with playing a role in the arrest of more than 50 murder suspects, the recovery of more than 1,000 firearms tied to crimes, and the seizure of roughly 1,000 pounds of narcotics. He also served as a mentor to newer officers.
Reno Police Chief Corey Solferino said Tindell “met danger with resolve” throughout his career. Reno City Manager Jackie Bryant said Tindell “led with strength, integrity, humility.”

The department has not released the cause of death.
Master Police Officer Tindell is survived by his mother, father, fiancé, and five children.
