Deputy U.S. Marshal Michael “Drew” Andrew Hanson, 36, was shot and killed Monday, July 13, 2026, while serving an arrest warrant in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was assigned to the Western District of Louisiana Fugitive Task Force.
Hanson, along with members of the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, went to a residence on Rutland Road to arrest Clarence Frazier, 48, who had failed to appear in state court on a charge of sexual battery involving a person with infirmities. Officers obtained a search warrant, approached the residence in marked law enforcement gear, announced themselves, and forced entry. Frazier barricaded himself in a bedroom and opened fire, striking Hanson. Hanson succumbed to his injuries at approximately 4:45 p.m. CDT.
Frazier held out in a further standoff before he was taken into custody. He has since been charged with murder. The FBI is investigating, with assistance from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Hanson joined the U.S. Marshals Service in 2020, serving in the Southern District of Alabama and later the Western District of Louisiana. Before that, he worked for Customs and Border Protection in Nogales, Arizona, then Immigration and Customs Enforcement in New Orleans. His career in law enforcement started earlier still, with the Ocean Springs, Mississippi Police Department, the Mississippi Department of Transportation, and the Gulfport Police Department.
He is survived by his wife and two children. Memorial arrangements have not yet been released.
