A Gibsonburg police officer went to Union Bank on West Madison Street shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday. What the original call was has not been released.
Inside, the officer ended up in a struggle with a man and was stabbed in the neck. Officers responding to the officer-down call found her seriously wounded.

Before the man ran, the officer got her weapon out and fired at him. He made it into the woods behind the bank carrying a gunshot wound to the face — an injury the Gibsonburg police chief later said was consistent with being shot by the officer he had just stabbed.
She was taken to a Level 1 trauma center in Toledo and went into surgery. She was listed stable Wednesday afternoon. The department has not released her name or her years of service.
The manhunt ran about six hours. Ohio issued a Blue Alert. Woodmore Local Schools locked down. More than fifteen agencies worked it — the FBI, the U.S. Marshals, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office among them. Scott Dodd Jr., 25, of Gibsonburg, was found about a half mile from the bank Wednesday afternoon and taken into custody. He was treated for the gunshot wound. Dodd was charged with felonious assault. He pleaded not guilty on August 28 and bond was set at $1 million. A preliminary hearing is set for September 16.
The Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office has the stabbing. Ohio BCI has the shooting.
