Incident: Tuesday, August 25, 2026, 400 block of Goodyear Street, San Jose, California. Footage released by the San Jose Police Department on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

According to the San Jose Police Department, the man was wanted for two robberies, on August 22 outside a bank on West Capitol Avenue and on August 23 at a shopping center on Curtner Avenue. In both, police say he brandished a long gun and took cash before driving off.

The vehicle was a gold 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe reported stolen on August 16. Police say he repeatedly swapped stolen license plates onto it to avoid detection.

At about 12:31 p.m. on August 25, Robbery Unit detectives located the Tahoe. Special Operations MERGE officers responded and, with the SJPD helicopter, the Real Time Intelligence Center, license plate reader and public safety cameras, and the Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force, tracked the vehicle.

Officers tried to stop it and he fled. Police say he brandished a firearm at officers during the pursuit. The Tahoe was disabled after hitting at least one parked vehicle, and he abandoned it near Goodyear Street and Lick Avenue.

He ran into a nearby home occupied by a family with at least one juvenile. Officers made a crisis entry to protect the occupants and found him hiding inside. Police say he produced a firearm and shot at two officers, striking one. He was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. A silver revolver was recovered.

The wounded officer, a sergeant, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later stabilized.
