Incident: Saturday, September 26, 2026, about 6:56 p.m., the Scioto County Jail in Portsmouth, Ohio. Reported by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and carried by local outlets beginning September 27.
A corrections officer making rounds inside the jail was attacked by an inmate who struck the officer in the face multiple times and went through the officer’s pockets, the sheriff’s office said.
A second officer who responded to assist was attacked as well. The inmate put a forearm across that officer’s throat until the officer lost consciousness, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both officers were taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center. One of the two was transferred to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for additional treatment.
No officer fired a weapon.
The inmate, Dimitrious Anglen, 30, of Euclid, Ohio, is charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony; two counts of felonious assault, second-degree felonies; and strangulation, a second-degree felony.
Anglen is being held without bond and was scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday, September 28.
The Scioto County Daily News reported that Anglen was already under indictment in a separate case over a December 9, 2025 incident at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, on charges of harassment with a bodily substance, a fifth-degree felony; assault, a third-degree felony; and misdemeanor assault.
The sheriff’s office has not released the officers’ conditions.
