The Simi Valley Police Department released body-worn camera video on Friday, September 4, 2026, of an officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday, July 21, near the 2500 block of Dusan Street. The department posted it to its own YouTube channel and said the release was made under California Assembly Bill 748 and the California Public Records Act.
The call came in about 8:15 that morning. Officers were sent to a home on the 2500 block of Dusan Street for a domestic disturbance. The man was gone by the time they arrived.

On the released video, an officer asks the family what the argument had been about. A woman answers, “We went to Vegas. He lost all of our money. He’s on something.” His father is seen with a bloody injury to his forearm.
Officers said they developed probable cause to arrest him for domestic battery and elder abuse. Family members told officers he was armed with a firearm and had threatened to “shoot it out” with police if they were called.
His plate and vehicle information were entered into Flock, an automated license plate reader system. Several hours later a Flock camera located his white pickup and alerted officers.
About 1:35 that afternoon, a motor officer tried to stop the truck near the Simi Valley Town Center. He refused to yield and led officers on a pursuit that ran over the freeway and through surface streets.
He came back to his family’s neighborhood. More officers were waiting there, and one officer had been posted at the home to protect the family.
About 1:45 p.m. he circled the residential streets and passed the house twice. Police said that on the third pass he drove his truck in the direct line of the officer posted in front of the home, and that the officer fired at the vehicle.
The truck struck the parked, unoccupied Simi Valley police motorcycle, then a parked RV in a neighbor’s driveway. Police said it then rolled out of the driveway and collided with a responding patrol car.
Officers surrounded the truck and fired again, then ordered him to surrender and show his hands. He did not respond. A SWAT team eventually pulled him from the truck and began CPR.
Nicholas Thompson, 37, of Simi Valley was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured. Nobody else was injured.
Police later confirmed that Thompson was not armed when officers shot him.
