During the pursuit on the northbound 710 Freeway, the driver fired at officers and an officer-involved shooting occurred, according to the department. The footage shows the officer returning fire through the windshield of the patrol car.
The pursuit ended in Los Angeles when the car crashed into a pole. The driver was taken into custody following a 40mm less-lethal use of force. He was not struck by gunfire and was taken to a hospital for injuries from the crash. No officers were injured, and the firearm was recovered.
The driver has been charged with five counts of attempted murder, along with evading police and possession of an assault weapon, and has pleaded not guilty. As with every officer-involved shooting, LBPD is conducting a full multi-level review.
