End of Watch: Homicide Agent Kevin Morris, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office

Incident: Saturday night, October 10, 2026, Interstate 95, Titusville, Florida. Death announced by Sheriff Wayne Ivey and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, October 11.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Agent Kevin Morris, 55, was killed when a wrong-way driver hit his vehicle head-on on Interstate 95 in Titusville while he was responding to a deputy-involved shooting, Sheriff Wayne Ivey said Sunday. The wrong-way driver was also killed.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a witness reported seeing a 2021 Nissan Sentra make a U-turn on I-95 and begin traveling south in the northbound lanes. Troopers said Morris was driving north in the inside lane, south of State Road 46, when the car entered his path. The two vehicles collided head-on and both caught fire, FOX 35 Orlando reported.

Ivey said an agent driving ahead of Morris spotted the wrong-way car and alerted dispatch. Seconds later, calls began coming in about a crash. The agent tried to call Morris and got no answer.

Morris and the driver of the Sentra both died. The Florida Highway Patrol has not released the wrong-way driver’s identity or said why the car was traveling the wrong direction.

Morris was on his way to a deputy-involved shooting in Mims. According to the sheriff’s office, as reported by FOX 35, deputies went to a home on Pine Avenue about 7:55 p.m. Saturday after a man’s son reported that his 79-year-old father was suicidal. Deputies determined the man met the criteria for an involuntary examination under Florida’s Baker Act and requested medical transport. When transport arrived, the sheriff’s office said, the man pulled a firearm concealed beneath his body and pointed it toward the deputies, and deputies fired. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Morris was hired as a deputy with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office on February 2, 2021. He previously served with the Palm Bay Police Department from 2001 to 2012, the sheriff’s office said. CBS12 reported that at the sheriff’s office he served as a deputy field training officer, a homicide unit agent and a polygraph examiner. The sheriff’s office said he received numerous letters of commendation, commendable service awards and a Life Saving Award.

“Our agency, our community, family of Kevin, are absolutely devastated,” Ivey said. “Kevin was probably one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet in your life.”

Morris is survived by his wife and daughter. WFLA reported that his daughter’s enrollment in a law enforcement academy a few years ago inspired him to return to the job.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The sheriff’s office said funeral arrangements will be announced when available.
