Incident: Monday, October 5, 2026, just before 4 p.m., 3700 block of Cutler Road, Okolona, Louisville, Kentucky. Footage released by the Louisville Metro Police Department on Friday, October 16, 2026.

According to LMPD, police were called to the home after a stepfather, who was not at the house, reported that his 15-year-old stepson had hit the boy’s mother.

The mother showed the responding officer her injuries and said her son had threatened to kill her. She told the officer he had a gun but that it was not loaded and that he had no ammunition.

The 15-year-old then fired from the porch. The round hit a vehicle behind his mother. The officer and the mother took cover. The stepfather arrived and was told to leave.

The teen walked down the sidewalk carrying the rifle. The officer repeatedly ordered him to drop it, then fired, striking him, and gave first aid. LMPD says the home’s porch camera shows the rifle pointed at the officer. The rifle, an AR-15 the teen took from inside the home, was recovered.

The teen had surgery, and LMPD said he is expected to survive. No one else was hit.

LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit is conducting the criminal investigation, which will go to the Commonwealth’s Attorney. Copies go to Kentucky State Police and the Louisville Office of Inspector General, and Professional Standards and the Performance Review Board will also review the shooting. Charges against the teen have not been released.

The video above is LMPD’s own release, with the 911 call, officer body camera and the home’s porch camera.
